don’t hate the bear | bearmy inspiration….
“Six or so years ago I chose the California Brown Bear as a character then put my own spin on it by trying to inject a kind of “California Style” feel, Heavy line work, Patterns and symbolism I find interesting. Not only that I found a connection between the Cali bear and the whole of the illegal art scene that I could really appreciate. I paint up California bears to remember a creature that was wiped out because it was a nuisance, much like the artist I grew up with and surround myself with, we are a very like story being played out the bear and us (Street/Graffiti Artists), we the hunted. My art is an honest attempt to explain through imagery my stories, influences, interests, opinions, dreams and goals as I understand them being a kid raised in California’s San Francisco Bay Area. Being able to project who I am and what I’m about through expression is what I honestly live for and being able to share it in a public place makes it even more enjoyable to me.
Expression is love, beauty, nourishment and all that is good and embraces those who stumble across it. The blank and bland creates a population of subservient working class clay people. Who cannot shape themselves so we must all create in public to save ourselves from a bleach bland future. Everything, that’s what Graffiti/street art means to me.”

Largely influenced by WuTangClan’s 5% philosophy known as “supreme mathematics”. The bearmy is using nine mirrors under this belief to “bring into existence” four bears perspectives. (9 x 4 = 36) These bears were developed exclusively for the Data Collection and Storage division (or the “D.C.&S. Agency”) and collect imagery through optical surveillance.
The arrangement of the bears in the space gives a big brother static perspective and reveals how the viewers interact/react to technology that is already an everyday occurrence in their lives. An awareness test of individuals if they will accept this spooky nanny cam surveillance or if they will take more time to investigate…where is their image going?
There are people who accept what is given and go on (often in a rush) and others who take time to live in a more awake enlightened way. It is the bearmy’s philosophy that we must combat the speeding of time and slow our existence to make all of our creation and consumption more genuine and deliberate.
